Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
